 Leblanc Concerto Question
Author: Rick
Date:   2002-11-29 11:28

Hi:
I recently purchased a Leblanc Concerto and it came with two barrels of different lengths and I wondered if this was standard with Concerto's or if someone messed up. This is my first new instrument in 30 years, so was just curious.

BTW, beautiful instrument. If I had known clarinets could play this well I would have upgraded years ago.

Thanks in Advance
RW

If I am not mistaken many clarinets come with two barrels these days. Mine did. I rather doubt someone messed up.

Thanks:
It just seemed a little strange that it was floating bare in the bell like a technician checking it out had forgotten it was there.

Appreciate it!
Best

Hmmm....maybe I got cheated!!! I selected my Bb and A Concerto's at the LeBlanc factory in Kenosha (bought them through a music store in Milwaukee) ten years ago and only received one barrel with each. Two barrels is a good idea, however, for tuning purposes and, to some extent, tone quality adjustment. Having recently auditioned a RC Buffet A from IMS that had two barrels in its case, it may be the current practice to include two barrels with each professional clarinet sale. (guess I bought my Concertos too soon)

The Leblanc factory recently (as of a few years ago) added a second barrel so that one would have more flexibility in tunning (and tonal)options . So now I believe the Bb's come with a 65, and 66 and the A's have a 64'66.

The Opus model comes with two barrels as well. I purchased and Opus last summer and it came with two, a 65 and 66.

Yes, the Concerto comes with a 65mm and a 66mm barrel. It is a very fine instrument. Congratulations on getting a good one.

Pro horns do come now with two barrels most of the times, however, like you Rick, I find rather strange that it would be found in the bell? Did you purchase the Concerto with the original case? As normally, the case would have special cuttings to receive the 2 barrels individually?

Stéphane.
