I just checked my e-Mail. In it was an 'official' looking form letter from "eBay", similar to one I received about six weeks ago -
The 'From': line address is: aw-confirm@ebay.com
and 'Subject': Security Check
Text reads;
"Please Sign In...
For security reasons please re-enter your"... etc.
...with boxes to type in user ID and eBay password.
I signed out of e-mail, went to eBay, scooted around its myriad complaint places, thinking I should report this. So far, I haven't figured out how to submit my concern :| Maybe I will later but thought I'd pass along the info here before I give up and just delete (without responding in any way, of course) the e-mail. I do not believe eBay requires you to type in any personal info for a "security check" ... ever. Especially when there is no explanation whatsoever for doing so.
(Move over P.T., you got lotsa competition movin' in

In general: never answer questions in an email, and always check the URL before "logging in" ... sometimes people send phony emails with a URL that's close to the real one or you misspell the real one and end up at a site that looks like the real one. You'll "log in", they'll capture your login and id, and then direct you to the real site. You won't even know you've been "had".

I have received similar email. I wonder if this is general spam or if they have somehow tapped into auctions to see who actually bids or has an account. You don't suppose that this came fom Poindexter's folks over at the Pentagon. I recently bid on a metal eefer, which some folks might consier to be a terrorist weapon.

I have received several emails like this from phony sources lately. Ebay will never ask for your password from your email account. Delete that sucker right away and report it to eBay safeharbor.
Also, change your password now and change it at regular intervals. My eBay account was "cracked" a couple of years ago (while I was running about $2,000.00 a month of clarinet stuff on a regular basis). I found out by going to the My Ebay page and finding that I had bid on a set of Ford Torino wheels. Imagine my surprise! I notified the seller that someone had "stolen" my eBay id and asked him to please cancel my bid. After that I selected a password that only I could know and added a series of numbers after it and have not been hacked again.
This time of year is especially prone to id theft, so be careful.
