I am looking for advice on a piece to compliment the pieces I have already chosen and worked on for my senior recital. As of now, I have the Debussy Premiere Rhapsodie (I almost have it memorized), Poulenc Sextuor for Woodwind quintet and piano, and Bartok's Romanian Dances arranged for clarinet and guitar. I am probably doing a hymn and one other piece for clarinet quartet, but I am looking for one final piece to fill out my recital. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Bozza, "Fantaieie Italienne" A technical challenge--fun to play and for the audience to listen to.

Or, for real musical "diversity", find a friend who plays bass and do Morton Gould's "Benny's Gig", a series of eight jazzy duets for clarinet and bass. Written for the late-great swing clarinetist, Benny Goodman, this work is also a crowd pleaser and fun to play.

Richard Stoltzman has recorded several Gershwin songs in clarinet transcriptions. "Walking the Dog" is particularly nice. I'm sure they've been published. Try Sheet Music Plus or Eble.

If you want to end with something spectacular rather than funny, try one of the operatic potpourri finger-wigglers. "Erwin" by Meister is one of the best.

Try the Templeton Pocket Sonata no 1 or no2 published at Warner chapell, quite jazzy but very effective.

Another delightful light, melodic clarinet work by Paul Pierne just "jumped out" of my file cabinet: "Andante-Scherzo". Editions Costallat, Editions Billaudot-S', 14, Rue di lEchiquer, Paris is my copy. Not long, but a welcome addition to any recital. Typical form--cadenza into, Andantine melody, Allegretto 6/8 dance-like section, and Allegro finish.
