Has anyone had any work done on his or her clarinet by John Peterson in L.A.? I met him a few months ago and talked a little bit before I had to get to an appointment. He sounded well-versed in clarinet repair lingo, but I still feel peer-to-peer reviews are the best way to find a good repair tech.
Anyone know of him?

No, but if you're in LA I can highly recommend Tom Yaeh. He works out of Bob Gilbert's place...(RDG Inc.)
He is expensive but worth every penny! I have found his work to be second to none and it lasts a long time.

John did a very good job of pinning my son's clarinet. The only problem was that it took over three weeks...too long. That is the same opinion that my son's teacher voiced recently. He does a very job but takes too long. He does a lot of work for professionals from around the states, and perhaps these take priority. In my opinion, if you have a good backup horn, then use John, otherwise find someone else.

John Peterson overhauled my R-13, a fine example that was actually picked out by Kalmen Bloch. The instrument hadn't had any adjustments or repairs since it was purchased 12 years prior. The funny thing is that it was still playing fairly well.
Anyway, John's overhaul was a work of absolute mastery. Now my instrument handles and plays better than any clarinet I have ever tried. Every aspect of the playability and operation has a feel of complete surety....and perfection. That's the only way to describe it.
