I am looking for information on clear/transparent bodied student clarinets. I know that Buffet used to make one. Does anyone know if any other company made one or still makes one. I have looked all over and can't find anything. Any information you have to help me locate such an instrument would be greatly apprcieated.

No, my old piano teacher had a clear Albert system clarinet, made in Germany in the late 30s/early 40s, mounted on her wall. Unfortunately I took piano lessons from her before I was interested in clarinet, so I can't tell you anything more. If I run over to that side of town one of these days maybe I'll drop in and see what brand it is.

now if I can only find one. I've seen a few other pictues, and a friend of mine actually played one at a convention once. Said it played well for a student model.

There used to be a bloke down the road in Brighton who busked in The Lanes with a transparent clarinet. I'm pretty sure that it was made by Leblanc/Vito.

The idea of playing a clear/transparent clarinet does not appeal, I used to use a Selmer transparent barrel with a crystal mouthpiece attatched to it, it would show all sorts of gung, can you imagine all that gung in a transparent clarinet, one of the rules for playing is 'do not eat or drink while playing the clarinet, (Ho, Ho, I'm a jazz musician) if you purchase one stick to this rule!

Transparent B-12s come up on eBay 3 or 4 times a year. Unfortunately, they go for a lot a lot more than they're worth -- usually close to $1,000.
It's possible that the Vito Dazzler was made in transparent material, but the closest I recall is white.
By the way, GBK's third link,
http://www2.odn.ne.jp/~can86470/gallery/gallery_7.html, also has shows a Conn "propeller wood" laminated horn. It's been a long time since I've seen one, but I think the actual color is a little lighter than the photo.
Best regards.

One or two that showed up on eBay contained information that they were experimental Buffet jobs and were rare(read expensive). In my opinion the concept is strictly novelty......what's the point!
