Hello
I have recently learned that the way I was tonguing was incorrect! I am now in the process of tonguing on the reed. It is difficult, and I often find myself returning to my original tonguing technique. If you have any advice at all, please share that with me!!!

The easiest thing I can think of explaining (and not confusing you!) through as few lines as possible is this: Try a coffee straw, the kind with the two columns if possible, but a regular one will work. These super skinny and tiny straws really help to keep a pressure flow of air, while you tongue, so it's a win-win situation. Just blow as you would on your horn, and tongue on the exact tip of the straw-and because the circumference of the straw is so small, your center will be a little more accurate, and you won't be tonguing all over like a maniac.
Do that for about 10 min. before practicing, or, do it while watching TV or something, it really helps!

Tongue on the reed as instructed--don't even think about doing it your "other" way--EVER!!!!! Just practice, don't look back, and get used to it.

I used to articulate without touching the reed, too. You'll be much happier once you make the transition...
