 Selmer Paris 1920's
Author: Al Stegmeyer

Hi:

I could use some advise please. I have my dad's old clarinet a Selmer *BT* made in Paris - apparently. I find myself in the difficult situation that I must sell it. I suspect the instrument needs an overhaul as it has not been played in at least 33 years. I see no cracks or anything but the silver is a bit green. Since my dad as Billy Stegmeyer with the World’s greatest Jazz band, Lawson - Haggart, Bob Crosby and others, I wonder if it would have a special value to someone along those lines. Would it be appropriate to put it on eBay or to contact someone who might find this of special value. My last question is what is the general opinion on sending the clarinet to someone who would put it in nice shape again or to let a musician pick his/her own personal repair person.

I will look back here in a few days or you may reply to me direct if you wish at asteg@upstrap.com. Feel free to em other about this instrument that will go for sale soon.

Thanks for your consideration,

Al Stegmeyer

Let the buyer pick their own repair person.

That a horn was played in professional jazz band rarely ever makes it collectable. However the Selmer BT is often desired by modern jazz musicians as horn to play.

Did you check the serial number to determine the age? I didn't think the BT went back to the 1920s but I could be wrong.

As I remember...the BT was produced in the 40s....the CT in the 50s..the series 9 in the 60s....and the series 10 began in the 70s....
At least that's the info I've stored in my memory from previous threads and from Selmer catalogs....

John

BTW--check this eBay offering for more perspective on the value of your instrument.
