Thanks to Ken Shaw I picked up the Dvorak a couple of years ago http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=13748&t=13677. It may be out of print though, When I ordered it from Tower Records I had to purchase a used copy (store demo).
Turns out there is Ormandy boxed set (from Germany) that has the Dvorak as well as several other pieces. It's called Eugene Ormandy Maestro Brillante. Do a search on www.google.com and you'll see several references to it. It may be a Tower exclusive in the US.
I paid $31.99 for it which includes 10 CDs (gee. $3.20 a CD!). Here's the CD listing

I guess McGinnis and Portnoy are both listed as being first chair in 1940 so it's one or the other. I haven't played them one after another, but I think the Sony reissue of the Dvorak Cello Concerto sounds better than this one. Perhaps it's my imagination. There a other boxed sets in the "Maestro" series that look good as well.

The Philadelphia Orchestra sells an anniversary set which has several live McLane items. None of them enhance his reputation much, as I hear them, but it adds Afternoon of a Faun and the Fairy's Kiss to his discography.

Volume I of The Early Concerto Recordings in The Isaac Stern Collection contains the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto recorded in 1949 with Alexander Hilsberg conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ralph McLane is the clarinetist. I believe the box of three CD's is becoming difficult to get.

Many still wonder if it is Robert McGinnis on the Fanatasia soundtrack. Does anyone have any supported documentation?

In the edition of Fantasia they used on the Disney TV show in the late 1950s and early 60s, there was a 10 second shot of the musicians in a supposed impromptu jam session. It's been years since I've seen it, but my memory is that it's McGinnis.
