I have a Buffet that is missing a few keys and some key rods. Any suggestions as to where to look for parts? This clarinet is is good shape other than that. It is missing the register key, the B-F# sliver key. It is also missing four key rods: the register key, the thumb ring, the F# trill key and the Eb-Bb trill key. It is also missing 3 pivot screws from the lower joint, which I believe can be ordered Ferree's. Any ideas?

Some repairmen can make new keys from their junkpile in their shops. New rods can be made from the right sized drill rod, available in any size at a machinist's supply or maybee Ferree's. A jeweler's saw is used to cut the screwdriver slot and the thread is cut using a thread cutter from the machinist's supply. Perhaps the Boosey and Hawkes company could supply parts, also. Good luck!

This is not a good situation (Award prize for stating the obvious here.) How old the clarinet is might dictate how you go about attempting the repair. My guess (from the condition you describe) is that this is an older model. Is the S/N above ~48,000 (memory - didn't look it up) making it an R13? Your choice for parts is, of course, new (if available - and expensive) and used (from a repair facility that has lots of busted Buffets come through - and still not cheap). New parts for older clarinets may not be an option.

May I suggest that you contact Francois Kloc at Boosey. He can get you the closest correct part. Buffet has used three different types of pivot screws over the years. Be sure to have the serial number handy when you call. You might be able to talk with Laurie if Francois isn't available.

The rods (steels) shouldn't be to much of a problem. The two keys that you mention, luckily, happen to be ones that Buffet hasn't really changed that much over the years. I think that you can get "up and running" without too much of a hassle. Sometimes Buffet can run slow in getting parts that aren't in stock. (Production runs on parts usually take time.) However, if the parts are in stock they get them out very quickly.
