Does anyone know of an online retailer who either specializes or has a large selection of classical music? Besides Amazon? Also, are there any convenient sources / sites where I can find classical album reviews and recommendations?
Much obliged,
Dave

you might try
www.musicabona.com
but they specalize in Bohemian/Czech/Slavic sheet music and CDs.
I've purchased both CDs and sheet music from them, they're service was excellent and their product range is HUGH and their prices were unbelievable.
But, you gotta love Slavic music - think Dvorak, etc.

"Music" is ambigious, I suspect you want recorded music, but it could mean sheet music.
For recordings add to the above:
towerrecords.com
For sheet music:
jwpepper.com

HI Bob
I must say I was recently very disappointed w sheetmusic.com. I had bought from them several times over a couple of years and the service was quite good. Then I placed another order for a number of titles. They filled all but one and emailed me that that one was on back order, w a promise to deliver x weeks later. X + y weeks went by and I still had nothing. More emails. Eventually they wrote back and told me that there was some problem w getting the music from the publisher, that either the selection was out of print or there might be a problem w copyright or something. I wrote back politely asking if they could find out and let me know if and when the selection would become available. They wrote back and said: "No"!! They couldn't!!
Huhhh?? I didn't send a blistering reply, rather keyed in the name of the publisher (BooseyHawkes in England), accessed their web page and inside of 60 seconds had placed my order directly from them. For less $$$ than sheetmusic originally were going to charge! The music arrived in less than one week! British postage stamps and all.
When I let sheetmusic know of this by the way, did they apologize? Thank me? Offer me a discount on a future selection? No, none of the above. They actually wrote back a rather prim and curt reply and said that they were right not to check for me with the publisher, that their "policy" does not allow for them to make inquiries of this nature.
As to Boosey's web page, it's great, the selection is vg, not to mention the service, pricing and speed of delivery.

Hi David,
I have always had excellent service with http://www.clarinetspot.com, order it tonight and have it in your hands 3 days later. Great selections of all kinds of sheet music even with links for other instruments if you play more than clarinet only. If you want to download after paying, then check out http://www.musicnotes.com and enjoy equally great service.
Happy clarinet playing !

diz...Rodriguez et Chimene was an unfinished 3 act opera, written by Debussy when he about 40, which has since been reconstructed.
It is based on the story of El Cid.
Heard of it, but never heard the recording...GBK
