weiner's makes a claim that if you can find a lower price (in the US) for an instrument than what weiners has to offer. You get the instrument free! would any know any place that could possibly challenge their prices?!?!

Occasionally, Muncy Winds will offer monthly specials on new "entry-level" Bb R-13s (nickel) for right around $1,575. I perused their website and it's not currently advertised but it might be worth a call to double check. At the Oklahoma ICA, I remember Dan was running the same special, and at that price on the first day with 15+ to play test it took an enormous amount of discipline and lower lip biting not to pull out my checkbook. BTW, if the claim is true and you score expect to pay shipping. v/r KEN

James,

What Weiner's catalog (from their web site) actually says is: "if we can't beat their price, we'll give it to you free." Some of our local car dealers say this too, and they've never given away a car!

Generally, this means that you need to give them a chance to come up with a lower price, and of course they will. Better to give you a few bucks off of the other guys price than to give you a free instrument!

Most of the majors including Muncy (and I think WW&BW) offer this sort of "we are the lowest" guarantee. It would seem that you could get them into a bidding war and get that R13 for $5. But it doesn't work that way (or they would all go out of business fast!)

They generally require you to prove the other guy's price (ie. a written quote.) However they rarely list their prices in print or on the net, instead listing "call for our price." There is no way to present a verbal quote to a competitor.

Actually better for the consumer is a price guarantee like those offered by Circuit City and Best Buys (to name a few.) These companies will offer a refund of the diference if you find a documented lower price in a certain period (usually 30 days) after the sale is made. I've actually collected a few dollars on these over the years.
