I have a Conn (Elkhart) Bb Clarinet, S/N: 242N B321750 L
From what I can tell, it's one of the 1940s instruments. It's in fully playable condition, and the wood has no cracks but a few minor scratches.
What I want to know is any information about this, because the S/N is not like the ones listed on this bulletin board. And, how much are these worth now?
My grandfather gave it to me. He said he was in a POW camp and swapped a piece of licorice for it (how ironic).
Thanks again guys

Are you sure it's 242N and not 424N ?

The 444N and 424N were the "top of the line" horns from C.G. CONN. Both models have tone hole inserts (chimneys). The differences are very subtle. The 444N has a small gold colored medallion set into the bell, the 424N does not. These are large bore professional instruments and are more suited for jazz. Used by lots of jazz players in the 40’s and 50’s. No undercutting or polycylindrical dimensions. They do play loudly and brightly, too much so for classical use.

On e-Bay 424N hardly sell. I had one in mint condition completely overhauled but received only one bid ($275)
