I've heard several mentions of Tom Ridenour and the Leblanc clarinets that he makes. I've visited the Leblanc factory in France. Is there another factory in the USA, and are the USA Leblancs different from the ones made in France? Just curious...

There is one in Kenosha, Wisconsin. They make at least the Vito model there. I don't know about any others and have never had the chance to visit it. These days, Leblanc's headquarters is actually in the USA.

The USA factory is in Kenosha, WI. The LeBlanc clarinets are made in France and shipped unassembled to this facility to avoid undo importing costs. The keys are then put on the instruments which are then "tweeked", cased and shipped to music stores for commecial sale. Therefore, the clarinets that you saw in France are really identical to the ones we get here in the "states." Tom Ridenour did not actually "make" the clarinets, but rather was LeBlancs cheif accoustical engineer responsible for the design and developement of the Opus and Concerto models. He has since left LeBlanc and now resides in Denton, Texas where he is associated with Mays Music and is "pushing" the new Selmer Signiture clarinet--as well as some other customized clarinet products.
