I'm taking private lessons and my teacher has told me that I'm tounging wrong. Instead of moving my tounge up and down, it's going back and forth. I'm trying to correct it but I'm having a really hard time with it. Any suggestions to help me out would be much appreciated. Thanks!

No amount of description is as good as working with your teacher, who is right next to you and see and hear what you're doing. Changing your tonguing method is not easy, so I'm not surprised you're having a hard time. Don't give up. Keep at it with your teacher's help, and in a few weeks everything will be fine.
I posted a fairly long description of the proper tonguing method a couple of months ago, which has some ideas and exercises that may help you. Go to http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?id=6899
Have courage. Everyone goes through this, and you'll make it too.
