Hmmm.....now how would that work? I guess if there were a way to record in realtime and send the audio file through that would work, but then again there has to be the visual assessment of embouchre, technique, etc to determine cause(s) of playing problems. I guess one could hook up one of those cameras. I wonder if there would be a market for internet lessons? The only problem is that eighth word "free". I don't know if I'd want lessons from someone who offered them "free". There would have to be some reason other than graciousness to offer them for "free". Perhaps a coroporate sponsorship from VanDoren/Buffet/or Conn-Selmer(that's the new company name now). Fascinating concept, but I'll leave it to others.

What jbutler's trying to say (I think, though I may have interpreted his entire paragraph), is that free lessons online that you might find are not quite up to the quality of private lessons.
I agree. I've played clarinet for about 11 years, and am ok at it. Last week (this past week), I took my FIRST private lesson in my life. Before that it was always group lessons in HS. After that one hour of lesson, he corrected my embouchre, told me to make that "hiss" sound with my tongue (read in previous posts), and showed me little tricks on playing certain notes in order to improve tone. After one hour, just ONE HOUR, I heard myself playing ten times better than had I not taken that lesson. My notes were clearer, I eliminated some bad habits I knew I had, but didn't know how to get rid of.
Take lessons. For me it was 30 bucks for one hour. I'm going twice a month. If you can afford a cellphone, you can afford lessons. And hopefully you'll appreciate it as much as I already do.

Reading the comments on this Bulletin Board is like having free lessons.
Use the "search" facility and you can find the answer to any problem you could imagine.
Decide, between the regular contributors, who seems to talk sense and then follow their advice. Just be careful to know when they're being entirely serious and when not.
