Would someone elaborate on what materials or methodologies students of present clarinet master courses adopt?
Franklin Cohen writes in a booklet that there have been a big advancement in clarinet playing in these 20 years. But learning only by Rose40 or 32,Baerman bookIII or Jettel, and multitones at most seem to stay in obviously 18th or 19th century. Some improvements in leaning methods should have taken place,I guess.

If you wait a week or so I'll let you know what Franklin Cohen is using these days.

It seems though that the great classic methods are still needed to really give the student a good grounding in clarinet technique. Whether you play modern, jazz, classical, pop, rock, or whatever, you still need that underlying technique to build on.

Mark:Thanks.It would be interesting.
Dee:Agree. My question should have been made by a man, who already mastered everything past great teachers adopted.

Galper Tone, Technique, and Stacatto book is a great one for study.

I thought clarinet lacks a tone improvement method like Marcel Moyse's 'De la Sonorite' for flute. It gives us a method to levelize tone quality over all registers,to crescendo and decrescendo without changing pitch,to make a very big intervals smoothly, and to change tone colors. In fact some clarinetists recommend Sonorite book to clarinetists. Let's see.

Galper book is similar in some exercises.

Hiroshi - a quick update. My son will be studying with Linnea Nereim for the 1st sememster. His practice will be consisting of the Langenus & Rose. Ms. Nereim is adjusting his hand position to enable him to play faster passages with less lost motion. Of course, this means that he's now playing much slower than before so he can concentrate on the positioning. He's pretty impressed with Ms. Nereim's manner and style.

He's 2nd clarinet in the orchestra at the moment. They're working up some John Williams & "Die Meistersinger". The pricipal clarinetist is a senior and will be playing the Corigliano for the Cleveland concerto competition.
