Another question

I'm using my backup clarinet right now and I get a lot of water in the throat A and Ab keys. I know what to do on a wooden clarinet with the oil, but I don't have any ideas on how to solve this on a plastic clarinet other than making scratches inside the bore. Is there a better way to keep water out of there? The moisture has got to be coming from condensation because the holes are on the top of the bore.

As long as the oil doesn't damage the plastic, the oil "trick" should work the same (see "Water in the Holes" here on Sneezy. Don't scratch the bore! (I knew you weren't going to, but some readers might not know that!)

But don't you have to apply the oil after each and every time you swab? What a pain.

I'll bet it wouldn't be every time, probably enough would sit there so you could go 2 or 3 times.

I couldn't even reach the hole with the Q-tip I used, but I just swiped the oil in an arc above the hole and it worked. Fortunately, I believe I've got the leak in my LeBlanc fixed, so it's a non issue.

Melt some paraffin in a small container and use a Q tip to distribute it in the appropriate location . This will last through many swabs and won't harm the plastic. It's basically the same compound, besides , you probably don't need to swab the plastic horn as much as a wooden one in fact don't even put it away ,leave it out so you can pick it up any time for a few licks.

Leaving it out doesn't work when you have 3 toddlers with grabby hands.
