 Doubling and pitch correction

I was wondering if I should really worry about doubling. My goal as a clarinetist is to get a job as a math teacher (Math major in college and music minor) and that way I can practice clarinet on the side and perhaps play in local region bands or a summer touring band or the like. My "dream" (not quite the same as a goal to me cause it'd be harder to achieve) is to play for broadway shows after years and years of teaching and practice. Phantom of the Opera if it's still around much later.
I know all the notes to sax and play it fairly easily. In order to get better on it, I typically just practice my clarinet music with the saxaphone. I know the range and key isn't the same, but clarinet music can tend to be dificult and I figure if I can play clarinet music with a sax, then sax music shouldn't be too hard. I'd do the same thing with scales once I get a scales book (refer to previous post). But should I worry about it? I love clarinet MUCH more than sax, but my church band needed saxaphone players not clarinet players so I'm playing sax there. Thanks for advice.
