I studied with David Shifrin at Yale 97-99. He's talking a sabbatical this year. Larry McDonald is teaching for him. He'll be back next year.

sabbatical - it's a period of time taken by academics to "enhance their technical abilities" - often of one years' duration.
Often referred to as a gravy train trip.

Larry McDonald is a fine teacher, an excellent player and a very nice guy, with a strong interest in period instrument performance. He made a very fine recording of the Mozart Quintet on a 5-key instrument with the Smithsonian Chamber Players. He taught for many years at the Oberlin Conservatory and now lives in New York City. You couldn't do better than study with him.
Best regards.

Wow, it's good to hear Larry's subbing in for Shifrin...
I haven't kept in touch with him. I studied at Oberlin from 1986-1990 with Larry. He's fabulous!!!
Ken, if you're ever in touch...tell him howdy from me...and if you've got any email contacts...let me know!

So much for trying to post with a headache...the one sentence should read, "Ken, if you're ever in touch WITH HIM..."
I didn't mean to imply that Ken is ever out of touch in general...
