The last several films I have been to have had very great orchestras playing the music to them. This can be well illustrated through films like the recent Star-Trek movies and also the IMAX shows such as the Grand Canyon. Although most films have have always had pretty good musicians playing the music, the last several years in particular have in my opinion seeming to get better and better in terms of musicality and musicianship. Of particular intrest to me (as a clarinettist) are the great playings of the clarinettists associated with such studio orchestras. I think Michell Luire was one of the main studio clarinettists for films in the past but I don't know which people are playing clarinet in groups like these today. If anyone knows this, I would be quite interested in finding this out. Thank You.

I believe that the London Symphony Orchestra has been used for a number of films, such as the Star Wars films. You can learn about the musicians at their web site, http://www.lso.co.uk . I don't where to find information about the Hollywood musicians, though.

Abe Most has done a lot of clarinet work, as well as sax--he played the track for the "Pink Panther."
