I was wondering about what people suggest for this beast, lately I have seen people talk about the vandorens, but what about selmer, pomarico crystal(excellent mouthpiece on B flat), or maybe has anybody tried Walter Grabner's?I have one of his Bass pieces and they're excellent, so has anybody tried his E flat piece?
Just want to know what people suggest as where I am(Tasmania, Australia)it is nearly impossible to try mouthpieces, so I am wondering what other people suggest.

Yes Dez, I've got a Grabner Eb 'piece. It's a belter. I found the intonation so much better than others. Now although I don't possess a "devil stick", I've used his m/p on two borrowed Eb's (Leblanc and Selmer) and it's great with both. I may have just been lucky, but going with my experience with his Bb and bass pieces, any of the three he sent me to try would have been great. His m/pieces seem to be more easily blown than many and you get a very personal service. I too have one of Walter's bass mouthpieces and it made my new Buffet Prestige Bass come to life. Smooth transition through the ranges and effortless altissimo with great depth of sound throughout. Quite a few of my colleagues here in UK are playing Walter's products. Suggest you get a couple of Eb's on appro to try

I second Ed on the Fobes mouthpieces. The Fobes Nova is quite good from what I remember. I have a Vandoren B44 as a backup and I have heard many good things about them and it works ok for me, but I find my Viotto the best for me.

For the Eb "devil's stick" clarinet, I found a Selmer HS** makes it "Heavenly". Great response over-all, full, resonate lower register and in-tune high F# and Gs. I play an older Yamaha pro model effer.
Also, a "two thumbs up" endorsment of Walter Grabners CXBS bass clarinet mouthpiece. I've only played bass for less than two years, but the CXBS is like "instant bass clarinet" to me. I can now control the "problem" notes (G# & A) and articulate those runs in La Forza Del Destino at "The Presidents Own" tempos. (Double tonguing helps) I play the Buffet Prestige 1194-2.

WOW!!! I am so surprised that I haven't heard anyone yet comment on Richard Hawkins's Eb Clarinet Mouthpiece! It just an amazing mouthpiece. Nothing I have tried has come remotely close to what he has been able to do with them. Weird enough they make it possible to play the Eb clarinet in tune and it takes the edge of the shrillness out of the sound that is commonly associated with the Eb clarinet. When you use one of his mouthpieces its almost as if you are hearing a fine tune Bb clarinet in the upper register. I don't know what it is, but his mouthpiece's make it so much easier to play Eb clarinet and you are able to focus on the music.

About six months ago I was searching for an Eb mouthpiece. I had tried Vandoren, Pyne, Hawkins, and Lurie. Of the lot, I found the Lurie (Crystal) to be vastly superior to the Vandoren and Hawkins. The Pyne was a close second, and the Lurie costs $150 less than the Pyne. I would record my sound on the Eb playing the Lurie, and nobody could tell that I was playing an Eb, which is the sound I was looking for.
Good luck!

Shawn, thats the sound I used to look for, and to an extent I still do. But it also has to be considered SHOULD an Eb clarinet sound like a Bb, or should it have its own character? I try to find a happy medium. By the way, no one here seems to ever mention Viotto mouthpieces but me. You should really try them if you get the chance. They are more of a european mouthpiece though which may not be favoured in the states.

AussieNick-
I've tried some Viotto mouthpieces, and liked them a lot. Which models are you using? (for Eb and Bb)

Does anybody know whether the Mitchell Luries are made by Pomarico?
The reason I am asking is that I have recently switched to Pomarico on Bflat they are very smooth and have clear articulations. It is much clearer than my Gigliotti and register changes are so smooth, and David S is right about them being a bit closed, I got the Saphire(supposedly comparable to a B45) which compares closely to my Gigliotti P34 with its opening.
Thanks

Being on the Frankfurter Musikmesse some years ago I was told by Pomarico that all crystal mpc blanks are made by Pomarico. Don't know about layers.

I play on a Richard Hawkins for all my clarinets from Eb to the bass. I am very happy with all of them on each instrument.
