Before I start I'm a clarinet players who owns a saxophone!
I know this site is about clarinets but there is a relationship with the saxophone, I have been given an old saxophone tutor 'Eby's complete scientific method' an American book, it is in a bit of a state but you will probably guess the date from what I am about to tell you, there are a few lines about Slap Tonguing and two pages on The Saxophone Laugh,this has thirteen parts.

Experiment And Observe
The Natural Laugh On The Saxophone
Importance Of The Breath
Breathing Exercises
Necessary Articulation
Use Of Tongue
Use Of Throat
Chin Movement
Reed Pressure
Range And Use Of The Laugh

Other Saxophone Effects (yelp, wail, bark, sob or cry)
Perseverance Necessary
Of course all this can be applied to the clarinet.
I hope somebody out their finds this of interest...Yawn - Yawn.

Yawn ...Yawn...is right.
Put the book of tricks in the drawer and get a copy of the Charlie Parker Omnibook (or any of several dozen other classic jazz saxophone transcription books).
All the gimmicks in the world cannot hide poor jazz conception...GBK

Except for once when (don't ask how) I had to play the first trumpet part to Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" on the tenor sax in a church orchestra, and had to do the horse whinny at the end......I just sort of yelled it through the horn, and everyone busted out laughing.....

Yikes... The whinny in Sleigh Ride can be bad enough on a trumpet...
The thing is, we have a number of fantastic trumpet players who can play just about anythingyou put in front of them. Not one of them can consistently hit the whinny, though.
..Yet we still do the song every year..
It's funny listening to the guys argue over who will do it (and inevitable mess it up) during rehearsal... but someone always pulls it off for the shows.
Go figure..

I have a pupil I am teaching to play jazz clarinet, she does not make me cry, she makes me laugh, not durung the lesson, when she has gone.

I have a clarinet teacher that I love and respect. We have a lot of fun and sometimes we laugh during the lessons. As an adult learner who is never going to make a living at playing the clarinet, I think it is really important that the experience of learning is enjoyable.
