Let's get back to clarinets !

Not wishing to reply in any way to the latest and most grotesque thread on Pyne mouthpieces (if that really was the subject), I too am disappointed that things have got out of hand like this. I joined the BB both to help (with my limited experience) but principally to gain from the greater experience of others for the furtherance of the art of playing our lovely instruments. I don't need a lesson in history nor indeed a lesson in semantics. These subjects are of course invaluable but there must be specialist sites for these subjects. I know we have freedom of speech on this BB but I am left wondering how this has improved relationships and understanding within the BB. Is Mark out there ? We're not allowed to criticise spelling but we are allowed to extend a thread to upper 50's(+) with ever-spiralling ramifications from one subject to another without restriction. Is there a lesson here for all of us.

yES, and what I see is that there is no limit to our differences. This is a good thing in some ways. it is part of the freedom of living in the west that all of us should cherish. It is too bad when things get out of hand, but at the same time it is sometimes good to agree to disagree...it is too bad though when it gets foolish but there is no doubt about it, to think anyone had the answers is wrong. We are all humans and we are all tring to to make music.
I would personally like to note that mouthpieces are not about music, they are equipment and therefore it only reflects one element of the passion that musicians can feel. (Passions taken too far can also diable and deystroy), and meaning is sought for in music through experiencing as a performer or as listener.

There are many people who do not hear or cannot walk and yet not a thought goes out to them and the plight they go through. If music could do one thing IT I HOPE WOULD BE TO CHANGE THE WORLD.

In order to change we all must collectively change as individuals and seek for changing the world through our art. It is really amazing, but I do feel music can change a world through improving the perception of ourselves through the realization of such great music, Beethoven, Brahms etc.
Sincerely
DD

I love this BB. I also love and respect the differences in each of us. But most of all I love and appreciate the similarities in all of us. I apologize to any I have insulted, I do forget at times that this is NOT just a U.S. BB.

On with regular topics again. The Clarinet, etc.

Becky

--I understand your frustration. My personal feelings on the controversial posts that surface from time to time and seem to go awry is we should consider the source, try to take it in stride and/or ignore it (Yes, I've definitely gotten sucked into a few myself and by no means a saint). As conscientious, dedicated and productive members of the clarinet community, amateur and professional we're better off in the long run concentrating on the steak, not the peas. There are a lot of folk (as we all know and have dealt with) that thrive on social adversity. They have no life, derive a warped sense of enjoyment pitting people against each other and aren't happy unless others are wallowing in the gutter of misery along with them. Even worse, they attempt to abuse this forum to character assassinate well-established/accomplished industry artists and retail merchants with the express purpose to hurt their businesses and livelihood. Peddling their garbage cloaked behind this virtual environment they are nothing but contemptuous cowards of the worst kind, contribute nothing and divide rather than unite. As I interpret it, it is a Bulletin Board "policy issue" that must ultimately be addressed/enforced by the Webmaster. Monitoring topics and content is their duty and responsibility and I don't consider it my place to publicly assess/scrutinize either way. This is a most worthy and IMPORTANT website for the positive exchange of ideas. I believe we should trust the Webmaster's good judgment in these matters and let him do his job. If one doesn't agree with anything posted here I would respectfully suggest pulling the weed out by the roots and contacting the webmaster privately instead of engaging in disparaging diatribe that only wastes perfectly good bandwidth. v/r KEN

Boys & girls,
Terminate this one, too. Talking about a bad thread just continues it further.
