Aussies,
How did we all go?
I got into nothing, no reserves or anything.
Andy, who is sitting next to me in a uni lad right now though, got into AYO!
Do we know any other results?
Tim

As Tim said,I got into AYO, both seasons.
Brett Janiec also got into to AYO for the first season and is a reserve for the second. I also have heard the Evan Guy and Robin Henry got into the first season.
The rest of the people at ANU either got reserve offers or nothing.
Susannah, email me and let me know who you are since we are going to be sitting next to each other. I think we already know each other quite well though from a previous camp...

I got clarinet/Eb reserve for AYO season 1, and camp reserve also.
As for other Queenslanders, Richard Haynes got AYO season 1 on Bass, and Eileen Mack got clarinet as far as I know. Tim Kennedy and Ben Williams in Melbourne got reserve spots. Someone by the last name of Seymour or Seymore is apparently in season 1 on Eb.

That would be Andrew Seymour, I think. He graduated from VCA last year. He's a great player, I've never heard him on Eb though!
How was your stay in Melbourne? You know I was talking to Robert and he was saying that you're prettly likely to get in if you audition, so that should be encouraging! I hope I see you around next year! And good luck with the audition... Gawd they really give you a drilling so look out!

OK, so I looked up the post again because I wanted to know who was in the section and I have found out someting odd:
PEOPLE WHO WE THINK GOT INTO AYO:
1) Eileen Mack, (? season/s)
2) Evan Guy, (season 1)
3) Brett Janiec, (season 1)
4) Robin Henry, E flat, (season 1)
5) Andrew Seymour, E flat (season 1)
6) Andrew Harper, bass (season 1 & 2)
7) Richard Haynes, bass (season 1)
8) Susannah, (season 1 & 2) (who after contacting privately have discovered isn't one of the people mentioned above)
So my question is, how can 8 people get in, when there are only 7 parts? Has one of these people already been called up from the reserve list? Is some of our information wrong? Or, god forbid, is someone lying?
I just thought that this question might trouble someobody else?

sorry, that didn't really explain anything... what happened was i didn't realise that season 1 and camp were on at the same time, so they rang me up to sort out which i'd rather do (if in the event, i got in) before they sent out the offers. So on my offer it said 'declined' season 1 AYO.

Morrigan (am I allowed to say your real first name?), Melbourne was great. I loved every minute of my time there, and the teachers were all really good to me. Each of the four of them have so much to offer too. One stood out to me as who would suit me the best, but I won't go into that now, since they all had good things to say so its all good. Thats cool that Robert said that (he's SUCH a nice guy), but I can't just go assuming I'll get in, especially since I'm trying to enter at 2nd or 3rd year level. I have to play well on the day first Good luck with your audition too. Let me know how you go.

Sounds like a lot of interesting competetion in australia! As a curious american, what are the two national camps and AYO. Is there really only one youth orchestra for the whole country? Also... like here in US generally our youth orchestra's are for High School aged musicians and then we have college prep orchestra's like the Civic orchestra of chicago. Is that same over? Just curious, thanks

James
The National Music Camp is a camp for older students, usually in 3rd year or later, who are, and I quote "...on the brink of a professional career." And yeah, there's ONE youth orchestra for the whole of Australia, however, it's standard is extremely high.
We also have Youth Orchestras for each state. I live in Melbourne and our Youth Orchestra here is OK, but still nothing compared to AYO. I'll be entering first year next year (for the second time), and I've been reserve for this orchestra for about 3 years now.
And I've never heard of a 'College prep orchestra'.
Aussie Nick
I know what you mean about assuming. It's a very bad thing. All you need to do is just as you said; work hard and play really well on the day. If it's not Robert you're thinking about having as your teacher, you can have Kate Stockwin (Principal clar., Orchestra Victoria) I think, and Craig Hill, I think, but not too sure about anyone else. I know that at the Con, they'll get anyone you want. I asked them if I could learn off Robert and they organised everything with him for me.

James, there are youth orchestras all over Australia (just like America), and then there is AYO which represents the entire country and is generally older than the youth orchestras in the big cities (except for the Queensland Youth Symphony which seems to be one of the older and more advanced orchestras at this standard. It has an age limit of 23, and is made up of many music students ranging from grade 12 till higher end university students). As Morrigan said, the national music camp usually takes about 6 clarinets to make up 2 symphony orchestras for a 2 week camp, and is held early in the year. The woodwind and brass students who attend these are usually fairly advanced and aged up to about 23, and usually they are the older and more advanced students rather than high school/early university level. The strings are usually a bit younger.

Nick,
I didn't realise that you and I might end up in the same city next year! I am still deciding (assuming that both Brisbane and Melbourne let me in) which one I am going to take. Who else did you have lessons with in Melbourne? I have had a couple with David Thomas and in my oppinion he is one of the best teachers going round at the moment. That however is only my little oppinion and after hearing Robert at the conference I also have nothing but praise for him. Why the change?
cheers,
Andy

Hi Everyone!
Congratulations to everyone who got into AYO and Camp! Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to get in! Guess I'll just have to keep on practising!
