i've been loaned an a clarinet - a B+H Edgware to play in the symphony orchestra a play in and I own a B+H 1010.
I'm wondering if i can use Bb clarinet reeds in the edgware clarinet mouthpeice or if i need to purchase some a clarinet reeds? My fellow clarinetists in the orchestra say they just use their own Bb clarinet mouthpeice on their a clarinets but the 1010 is larger and shouldn't fit (although it seems to).

Bb and A clarinets use the same mouthpieces and reeds. Many orchestra players, when they switch clarinets, pull the mouthpiece/reed off one instrument and put it on the other; other players find a barrel that works on both clarinets and transfer the whole reed/mouthpiece/barrel assembly (has the advantage of not potentially twisting the ligature off during the operation). In what way is your 1010 mouthpiece "larger" --- do you mean the table where the reed sits is longer and/or wider, or is the tenon diameter larger? There really shouldn't be any differences to speak of. If we have a few more details about your problem I'm sure there's more than enough expertise on this BB to inundate you with good suggestions!

A and Bb clarinets use the same mouthpieces and reeds, usually.
However, the 1010 has an unusual bore and requires a different mouthpiece from the norm. Assuming your 1010 is in tune with your usual mouthpiece, you'll probably find that the A clarinet is out of tune. Not because it's an A clarinet, but because it isn't a 1010.

I have been able to play a 1010 in tune (at any rate, as in tune as I normally play!) with standard French-bore mouthpieces, but there are many clarinetists way above my skill level who assert that it's crucial to match the mouthpiece bore to that of the instrument on the 1010, so.....I defer to them.

The mouthpieces for English 1010 bore clarinets and French bore clarinets differ only in the size of the interior chamber. The only thing that counts is intonation. If your present moutpiece plays in tune on the Edgeware, don't worry about it.
