Sony MD players

For all you clarinet players out there. You should seriously consider getting a Sony Md player. They would turn into a very important part of your whole routine. They are these small compact recorders that with the combination of a stero mic give you the most accurate sound quality possible. I have found for myself it's really good for me to record myself becuase I can go back and catch things I dont notice during my practice. Check out sonystyle.com .. They are a little expensive but it is a great investment. Just thought I would pass this info along! :)

James- I've got one and it droves me insane!! I use it occasionally to check stuff, but if I used it in my regular practise routine, I'd probably give up! Glad to hear that you can live with it.

I don't think they mean to say they're junk; rather, when teamed with a decent mike, they let you hear all those things that you don't want to hear ...

Well, I use mine for the Balkan folk music lessons that I can't find enough of up here in Minnesota. I use it to record the tunes. This stuff ain't written down...so aural is the only way to go... And the MD is great for this stuff. I can edit out chatter and unnecessary stuff later and recover some of the space on the disc.

But I never record myself...lol

I find those little toys just wonderful. I use mine to record myself (I am not particularly masochist though!), this is a very good thing indeed to force yourself hearing what you don't want to hear! I use it also to record performance I am lucky enough to attend. The latest one was a very "casual concert" organized by WW&BW and Selmer in their Paris premises with the wonderful Alessandro Carbonare (Orchestre National de France Principal). Alessandro was delighted I was able to record his performance (to be transferred onto a CD and sent to him), and believe me, I will keep that record in a safe!

James sounds as if he has just entered the 21st century :) There are also many other brands of md players/recorders other than Sony, Sony does have the best reputation though (I used to work in an electronics store, but you don't need to work there to know Sony is a good brand)... but just like we need to give credit to the clarinet makers other than Buffet, we should also consider Phillips, Sharp, Panasonic, bla bla :) I sound like a salesman don't I :(

MD recorders will probably be replaced by MP3 players that can also record, though I am not aware of a good one at this time. So check out for this new development. And yes, MP3 is good enough to record in high fidelity. A 60 minute recording would take maybe 128 MB in very good quality.
