Who makes the thumbrest in the picture and where can I purchase a similar one?

It looks very similar to the Buffet E-11 thumb rest. I've got the part number floating around here somewhere. It may take a while for me to find it. I'm a little disorganized at the moment.

that thumbrest was produce by the Schnelling Co.Chicago in 1941. I know because I bought one new and its still on my horn. I also have the original box and paperwork that came with it.I paid $7.45. I'm afraid the company's long out of business.

jbutler is correct. I had one on my E11 and transfered it to my R13 because I like to use a neckstrap.

I wonder if a Jupiter thumbrest would also work for you?

Their replacement parts are reasonably priced, and readily available...

It looks exactly like the one used on the Buffet E11 and is available at Jeanne's or any other Buffet dealer. Not cheap and the holes may not line up with the ones already in your horn....which leads to another problem.

I was at an audition the other day and I saw another clarinetist using a neckstrap. My first thought is that it seems a little wimpy, but I have seen other players doing the same. any thoughts?

20 years from not ask who has problems with their thumb joint vs. who does not. It used to be considered "wimpy" to wear hearing protection - until people realized that the "wimps" still had their hearing at 65 years old.

I do get some friendly teasing for using the neckstrap, but I no longer suffer from tendonitis in my wrist, so...

Wimpy, perhaps, but worth it.

The beauty of the pictured thumbrest is that it will allow the use of a neckstrap with a hook attachment. As an aside and comment on cts I recently purchased a "Carpal-Mate" wrist support that helps a lot

Carpal-Mate is the name of one model of wrist support made by Fla Orthopedics, Inc. Miramar,Florida...www.CarpalMate.com(it says on the box). One size fits all either hand. $18.95 This model allows the most freedom of finger movement(for clarinet playing). I've been wearing it a week including during the night(very important) and really think it's great...I have no financial interest in the company
