Will somebody please tell an old tuba player what a " French-style pochette case" is? Pro Winds is including this particular case with their Selmer Signature. Help, please...

the "pochette" (French for "pocket") case is the slim, sliding-latch style cases one most often associates with professional flutes. It's a very streamlined case, which requires a case cover for storage of accessories.

The modern cases have styrofoam surrounding our expensive gear, same stuff used in automobile bumpers...
Protec and others make good cases for $40 or less, cheap insurance.

My Selmer Pochette case has seen some bad bumps in its day and is still working just fine (bumps like falling off the roof of my car onto the ground, falling off a bicycle doing somewhere around 20 mph, stuff like that. The case is scratched - but who cares. The horn is fine.)

Oversimplified, there are two types of cases(for most modern non-metal clarinets) and they are the attache and the pochette. The attache has a regular rectangular shape with square corners while the pochette is smaller , has a slight "bell shape" on one end and has rounded corners i.e. more like a "purse". It is common to encase the pochette in a separate cover for added safety and insulation...but it really isn't necessary...in my opinion.

i'm curious about when or if you will receive your order from prowinds. i ordered a vandoren lig in the middle of june and was told 7-10 days until arrival. a month went by...still no lig....called again they sent another or at least they "said" 2 months went by still no lig. i finally canceled. has anyone else experienced a problem with prowinds?

Vandoren Lig : you should order directly to WoowindBrasswind or another shop but in Paris and receive your stuff within 3 days.
Pochette case : I have recently puchased a Buffet Pochette case. Very light and nice. Not top quality but not very expensive, so...
It exists with vinyl covering or leather (more expensive).
Single (Bb) or twin (Bb-A)
To me, buying a separate cover isn't necessary considering you put the case in a little backpack or in your travel bag.
That kind of case is very handy, easy to lodge and over all, elegant.
For sure, you can't bring your 12 ligatures and 5 mouthpieces...
