More importantly, today is the birthday of "Twiggy" (insert appropriate reed joke here), Adam West (barely able to still don those Batman tights), and the late "Mama" Cass Elliot, who would have been 59...GBK (who is still "California Dreaming")

I believe that that is a myth. Not sure how it got started. Probably because of her large size.

Having been involved with personal computers since 1980 I can attest to them..emoticons... being used since around 1982. They always remind me of the story about the guy who goes into the restaurant, orders and starts to eat his meal when the cook asks him how the food is. The guy says, "Just like mother's..she couldn't cook either."

Well Don, I would not call that a "reduction to absurdity" but rather
qui nescit dissimulare nescit vivere, which should be the motto of all e-Bay sellers. Emoticons or no!
[He who does not know how to fib does not know how to survive] or more in the formal fashion, "he who does not know how to dissemble does not know how to live"--not related to the pieces of your beloved R13 lying "disassembled on the dinning-room table-ha ha).

Charles West recordings can be heard on Wilson Audiofile Label..the Brahms recordings of the Sonatas are fantastic. He also had a recording of lighter works which I can't remeber but is hiding somewhere among my junk....
