Shows what a little snake oil can do. The picture wasn't even clear.

It's not that bad. The seller had a lot of "I was told"'s in there ... this is no worse than the hype used by just about any company. Very few (if any) facts, lots of air.

We all love to poke fun at outrageous e-Bay ads. Sometimes our mirth can disclose our ignorance to others. I would be in line with you on this except I have one of these D-series Evettes.

"I have been told" the same things about Evette's R-13 heritage... here on "Sneezy". But the fact is there were some superlative Evettes, I have one. After testing a shipment of 50 horns I narrowed it down to two I liked best (back in 1968 as I recall) one was a Buffet Crampon and the other the Evette.

I just sold my R13 (1954) and am playing my 1925 Full Boehm, my daughter still has that Evette and it is still the best horn either of us have ever played. Over the years I have loaned this horn to some folks when their horns were not available, every time it is returned along with a purchase offer.

As for the asking price and the current offer, if this is one of those exceptional horns it is well underpriced. However the chances of it being exceptional is low and for a run of the mill Evette it is selling quite high. It is a gamble... caveat emptor. To find out how good it is you have to buy it and re-pad it possibly do an overhaul. Then you may just have lamp material after-all.

All this said, I will keep looking to laugh at the "rare professional" metal clarinets missing the barrel tube which were used in a philharmonic orchestra which pop up now and again complete with the reversed photos and smashed bells. BTW, I will also keep watching for the real deals from sellers who don't know what they have... didn't a nice looking R-13 go a few minutes after posting a couple of weeks ago for a "buy it now" of just a few hundred?

Laugh if you will, but there is just a chance that the seller knows something you don't.... but maybe he is a P. T. Barnum clone also!

Respectfully, Terry Horlick

I have a 1974 D serial Evette Master Model that has been barely used (you can tell from the wear on the LH index finger tonehole) and I know that the tone is very good, but it is not a stealth R-13. The top tonehole in the lower section is not undercut (Lee Gibson mentioned this and so I looked). And it is Chalumeau where the difference shows with mine. I doubt that any Evette MM, which has to be 25 years old or more to be French, can be worth what this brought, no matter what the condition. And the pictures don't allow a judgment on condition. Perhaps with a money-back guarantee...
