 my dream finally came true!

I'm a ninth grader, and got asked to play on a college band and college orchestra, where my teacher plays too(We're the only clarinetists)i played on the band last year, but never thought i was gonna play in the orchestra. It came as a surprise to me. My band director(also a sax player in the band) told me. You can't imagine how happy I was. Playing in an orchestra has been my dreams for all the 2 years I play the clarinet!!

(I'm sorry for sharing my life story with you guys, but...)

Do you like orchestra or band better??? I think that Band is just boring for clarinets, orchestra is very very fun. What do u think???

Orchestral parts--or any ensemble where you are the sole player on your part--offeres much more opportunity for musical expression and the personal satisfaction than playing in a concert band as one of many on the same part. At least, that is my own opinion based upon many years as principal clarinet in both concert bands and orchestras. For me, "one-to-a-part" playing is preferable to "many-to-a-part" every time. Congradulations on realizing your dream come true--certainly good news to share.

Congradulations! I think that playing in orchestras are so much more fun than bands. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good band works out there, but I just like orchestra better. I was in a lot of orchestras this summer at a 6-week music festival, and I always looked forward to the orchestra rehearsals more than the band. Anyway... congrats again!

I'm in local college concert band and my son is in college youth orchestra. We both play clarinet. It depends on music but I see my music has more to play. As a conductor of church youth orchestra, I think clarinet player in concert band plays much more than one in orchestra does. But it depends on music. Clarinet in concert band does what violin does in orchestra. No idea about other type of bands. IMHO. Enjoy!

Splendid Bb, I hope the opportunity to play in, and experience a good orchestra at such an early point is just the motivation and spark you need to always keep you coming back and make music (and the clarinet) a "permanent" part of your life. Remember, it doesn't matter WHAT skill level you play at, what's most important is having FUN and love what you do...if you're having FUN you know you're doing it up right. v/r
