Big Easy

Any feedback on the new Pete Fountain Big Easy? (Leblanc dealers need not reply...) Same as the old horn with a new tag, or entirely different horn?

One difference might be that the BE may come with the Pete Fountain Crystal mouthpiece. I don't know that for a fact, but the picture on Music123.com shows it with a Crystal Mpc.

Other than that I don't know. Lablanc seems to be indicating that it's easier to play and has better intonation, but that may just be coming from the marketers at Lablanc.

I'm thinking seriously of buying one, so would be very interested if anyone knows of any differences between them.

I'd love to have one of these, but so far I may just be a victim of LeBlanc marketing hype. Hope someone has some knowedgeable advice on this.

By the way. I wonder if the BE would have larger tone holes like the Selmer 1400 (with the same bore size). It doesn't aid to the ease of playing the instrument on the Selmer.

I've got one of the last made before the switchover and enjoy it very much. I've tried the new model and found no difference in the playing. The cosmetics have changed to give it a stronger identity, which might add somewhat to the experience. IF, you can find a really nice old Conn 444N and are willing to PAY for the BEST available overhaul, then you will have the finest jazz clarinet around, imho. (I have one. Not for sale.)

I recently purchased a Conn 444N with a fresh overhaul. Though the instrument was in excellent condition, I could not begin to play it in tune, especially the notes just above the break (the seller, a fine gentleman worthy of respect, allowed me to return it). It wasn't for me, but I'm just a brass player that would rather play jazz clarinet.
