Can feel (and share some of) your excitement all the way over at my house, Mindy. How'd this come about? I mean is it your birthday, was it special delivered, or... a Big Surprise??? Whatever it is, thanks for sharing your good news :)
Happy, happy tootin' :]]]

Me too, Mindy! Have you tried out the A yet? Being a slightly diff. size horn, what playing differences have you found?? Best wishes, Don

I didn't think it was possible to get so excited over an A clarinet.

I got my A clarinet because I needed one for youth orchestra. So, my parents got one. :) But they keep telling me that if I want anyother kind.......I have to get it myself, since I have the 3 main ones now... (Bb, Eb, and A) hehehe.... The A seems to be more reedy.... is that possible? now of course that was the first day they got here.... and I haven't touched then since...... I need to try them again thats for sure! :) well.... I am really excited lol :)

I am Mindy's mother and Ron asked "why" did she get the "A". Well, as a music teacher I know the importance of having quality instruments and I know that if a child is interested in music DON'T hold him/her back. Get them the things they need. My husband doesn't share that same feeling and says that a clarinet is a clarinet no matter what it looks like or what it sounds like, etc, etc. I, of course, disagree/ We have had rounds of "discussion" about the instruments that I want the girls to have (our other daughter plays oboe and has a Cabart oboe with 3rd octave key and a Loree English Horn with 3rd oct. She is 12 and in the 8th grade). Needless to say, we have a TON of money tied up in instruments and music (you can never have too much music for your instrument). We were thinking about buying a new house and had even written a contract on it but after thinking it over we decided that the instruments, music, camps, life experiences, travel, reeds, orchestras, etc,ect were too important to give up. So, we are staying in our little 2-bedroom one bath house that has been paid for for 5 years. We are debt free and we like that so we are able to afford the "finer" things in life for the girls --- so -- no -- the "A" was not for Christmas, birthday, or anything else. She just needed it to get ahead in the clarinet world. She is in the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra and needed the "A" for that, so ......we got it for her. :) I like being able to do that!

I don't know whether it's well-known in the U.S. but Italian players are known not to keep A clarinets at all. They transpose everything on their Bb horns. I don't want to suggest a reason as it would be speculation at best, but I think it's interesting (if true).
