Hi, everyone.. I was just looking online for a clarinet forum and I'm happy I've found a place that's still active.
I'd like to introduce myself.. my name is Nick Angiolillo, I'm 17 from Syracuse, New York, and I started playing clarinet just over a month ago. My teacher has me working out of basic lesson books plus an additional jazz book. I like jazz, but I really love classical music. The distinct sound of clarinets in an orchestra really drew me to the instrument, and I'm happy I started playing.
I don't know all of the social rules here at the board.. as far as what I put in for my name at the top of the post, should I be more specific? I don't see any type of registration..

Your name can be most anything (as long as it's not obscene) and if it overlaps anyone else's they'll let you know.
The BBoard is reasonably loose, people contribute when/if they can, and generally it's a good crowd.
There's only a few "rules" - no ad hominen attacks, no third party gossip, no posts just correcting someone's spelling or grammar (though you're welcome to correct the spelling in a reply - just don't point it out), and no self-promotion in a post.

I'd like to be one among many to greet you and offer a hearty Welcome. B'boarders range from beginners to amateurs to pros and more than a few who are returning after long absences. Some of us are second, third or -?times?- returnees. You'll find all ages represented. No dues, no registration, no entrance requirement(s). We discuss anything we feel like discussing, although we try to keep it mostly music related and preferably, though not exclusively, clarinet oriented.
If you've been observing for a while you've probably noticed that we like to have fun while we're at it.

Hi Nick, Welcome. I'm one of the "Old geezers" who hang on here hoping to learn more and enjoying the young folk that have questions I might be able to answer (those are few). One thing, however. Take advantage of the "Search" option. You would be surpised at the topics already discussed at length. Read through these on your topic before you ask your question--if not some "old geezer" will remind you that the "search" option exists. And it might even be me. Ha!

Welcome! I'm a 17 year old clarinetist from Syracuse also. Who do you study with? I've played clarinet since I was in third grade (I'm going to be a senior) and I want to major in music in college. If you'd like some local clarinet advice or would like to chat, just e-mail me.

Nick...Welcome as well, from one of the regulars. It's always nice to get a new voice on the bulletin board.

Seriously, you will find everyone here most supportive in your beginning endeavors.
Favorite subjects we welcome comments on:
1. Which clarinet brand is best?
2. Should I oil my clarinet?
3. How come I am having trouble with my Vandoren reeds?
4. Is my clarinet "blown out?"
5. Is Mark Charette real or imaginary?
Oh, there I go being cynical again...

Welcome to our happy BB !! There are a great bunch of folks here with all levels of talent and experience. We are like a big family always willing to help out. They sure have given me some excellent advice and tips to us. I am a "re-tread" here. I played clarinet in jr high school band and quit but returned to it 30 yrs later.
Enjoy life and clarinet playing !

I'm a junior here, working on two degrees: a B.A. in music, and B.S. in inclusive elementary and special education. I was surprised to hear that both of you are from Syracuse. Julia- Well, technically speaking I'm more from Ithaca in location. But I go to high school in DeWitt, was in Onondaga All-County and Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra so I'm really a Syracuse musician.

Welcome aboard. By the way, if you do ever have any trouble with the Vandoren reeds, GBK is your guy. You'll find that he has definite opinions about them. Listen to him carefully - he's RIGHT!!
But anyway, I'm another old geezer, like Kirk, who played through high school, then gave it up, only to return thirty-eight years later. Couldn't be happier. There's a lot of good advice and fun on this board - extremely helpful and knowledgeable group of folks.

Hi Nick,
Another good thing to mention about this wonderful place, is that it is international! Well even if probably 95% (I am very bad at statictics..)of contributors are American, you'll still find some strange aliens from outer US like Diz, Aussie Nick, or even myself a French froggie that can master some of your language and contribute to the best they can to clarinetting. So if you need more info about what's happenning outside the US, will be happy to help.
