 Nice Stories

I put a posting in about horror stories and generated some good replies. Now how about some nice stories, I will start with one from a trombone playing friend of mine, I'm sure nobidy will mind it not being about clarinets,

When my friend was eight he wanted to learn to play the trombone, every year his school asked the children if they wanted to learn a musical instrument, he wanted to play the trombone, then trouble was he was very small for his age and he decided in his head that they would not let him play one because his arms were too short, so he reluctantly decided he would have to ask for a cornet, on the day appointed he was waiting patiently to be called and he was alomost the last child to be asked, the teacher asked him what he wantd to play and he said "I want a cornet" the teacher looked down at him and said "I'm sorry but we only have a trombone left" he said at that moment he was the happiest kid in the world, young Mr Sandy Axon became a very fine Jazz Trombonist.

It almost brings tears to me eyes!

Mine happened earlier in the same day as my horror story.

Ever had a time where you felt like God shone his light directly on you and said, "Now is your moment."? At these same tryouts our first task was to play a chromatic scale tongued in 16th notes from low F to above staff F and back. I've always had difficulty tonguing so I was a bit nervous, but my band director at the time taught me a trick -- think in triplets, and as long as everybody is listening for 16ths, nobody will be the wiser. So my turn comes up, I get in the hot seat, there's about 30 other clarinetists in the room awaiting their turns and listening to me, and by God if I didn't just nail the thing perfectly, right up the ladder and right back down. There's this stunned silence when I finished, then after a moment I hear somebody behind me mutter under her breath, "F**K!" I was so proud.

Unfortunately, it's all been downhill from there. I've never had as perfect a moment. Maybe someday...
