I recently saw a Leblanc Opus Rosewood clarinet listed on ebay. I sent a few questions to the seller, who turned out to be Richard Hawkins. I bought the clarinet, and it is a magnificent instrument--by far the best that I have ever played! The sound and intonation are amazing, so much so that I am returning my new Buffet Festival to International Music Suppliers, even though I will have be to pay a restocking fee.
Now for the question. Having played a Buffet R-13 on and off for 30 years, I am not generally familiar with Leblanc clarinets, but I thought that this clarinet would be a Symphonie VII (which Leblanc says is accoustically identical to the grenadilla wood Opus) since that seems to be the only rosewood clarinet made by Leblanc. Instead the clarinet (which is about 6 years old) has the standard Leblanc Opus markings and does not have the Symphonie VII markings. Did Leblanc make a rosewood Opus, or is this the same clarinet as the Symphonie VII made before Leblanc adopted the Sypmhonie VII name? Believe me, I am not complaining about the clarinet, I'm just curious.
