The greater Saint John area has about a populus of about 118, ooo and has two community bands and one symphony orchestra which I am in. It is located at the southern part of the province of NB in Canada. It has a long tradition of music and boasts several world famous arts and music people..your welcome to come up and hear us

Donald Sutherland is a famous actor from Saint John
So is Walter Pidgeon but he is a little before most of the BBoarder's time...

It is home to the 3 Fld Brigade Band (40 members)
St. Marys Band (40 to 45 members)
It is home to Symphony NB the orchestra I play in professionally (its listed on the web)

It boasts the highest tides in the world(being contested now)at about 40 foot differtial in 6 hours

Several of Canada's finest musicians are from here like Phil Thompson who is a Lizst expert(and freind of mine)see Naxos recordings....
Jane Coup a famous Canadian accompanist who works in Alberta and records on CBC records.
Lance Oulette (Concert Violinist)
Stephan Arman(solist and concert Violinist)won Gramophone Awards recently(UK)

We also have one of the finest Comncert halls in the world"The Imperial theatre" check web for info

I work and teach here and have roughly 25 students and work in Radio , Orchestra, and Chamber music settings.....

My students also have been told to check this board out...

I have also knowledge that Moncton Nb hads a concert band and so does Fredericton NB. these are smaller of course.....

our orchestra does a small season of about 30 concerts or so

I also work in the US as a freelance player in Maine and New Hampshire and have close freinds in Boston and Portland MNe. If anyone is in NB you could probably find us rehearsing aND BRING YOUR CLARINET. Sincerely D Dow

David:

Please post here if you perform in either the Hanover, NH area or in the Burlington/Montpelier, VT area.

Thanks for the info on Saint John NB. I visited there a few years ago on my way to PEI and the Bay of Fundy Provincial Park. Next time I'll schedule my trip so I can attend a Symphony NB concert.

Matt

I also seem to remember working in a orchestra for a conductors workshop in New Hampshire and had a great time....if in the fall bring sweathers ..it gets pretty cool after 6 pm or so in late Sept on. In winter bring a truckload of clothing!

"a small season of about 30 concerts or so"

Hmmm....., sounds pretty active to me. I play in a pretty good regional professional orchestra and our concert series consists of seven from Sept. through May with summer concerts on July 2 and 4. If I get "up your way", I'll be certain to pack my clarinets and give you a call.

David: Just to mention it, Sutherland is a member of the Order of Canada. I met Pidgeon several years ago (while he was still alive, fortunately). He seemed to be a most pleasant man, although it was a bit difficult to hold a conversation due to his hearing problem. Not only was I unaware that he was from St. John, I didn't even know he was Canadian. If I ever get that far east in Canada, I'll be sure to look you up.

Regards,
John
