Hi. Does anyone know anything about clarinets made by the Schreiber company? I know they make bassoons, but recently I came across a clarinet made by them. It is really old and in poor condition but I was wondering if it was worth getting fixed up. The serial number is 3111. On the back of the low F/middle C key in the left hand the letter "E" is ingraved. It is also ingraved about an inch below the thumb rest. If anyone knows anything about this instrument I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I don't know anything about the clarinets, but I've heard of Schreiber Bass Clarinet mouthpieces - that they are very good. In fact, I tried to order them from several places, but no one that I talked to had ever heard of them (including Woodwinds and Brasswinds).

There are two Schreiber companies in Germany:
W. Schreiber (any joint venture with Boosey & Hawkes) is well known for beginner clarinets (also offers some high end oehler).
Ernst Schreiber produces mouthpieces.
(Another well known german mouthpiece manufacturer is "Zinner").
I'll need a week or so to get access to their addresses.
