I've played for aboiut 3 years then I quit, for a year, and just recently took up the clarinet. I went to buy reeds though and I'm not sure at all what size I should have; I'm pretty sure I used to play on a 1 and a half but I've heard that 2 and a half is better for high notes. Help, please!

Mike,
The numbers on reeds don't refer to size (they're all the same) but strength. It's impossible to say what's best for you, since how it works is so dependent on the way it relates to your mouthpiece. A 1 & a half on a wide lay might feel the same as a 4 on a close one. If you play a Vandoren mp. the lealet you get in reed-boxes sometimes gives a guide to what's recommended, but I wouldn't treat that as too reliable. You should try a variety and see what suits you

Thanks a lot jez, I just got a synthetic reed, it's medium-soft and it seems to work fine. I'm not gonna stress too much over it because I'm not a professional or anything, it's just a high school marching band lol.
