Yes, but the DC's are better. The Classique are supposed to compete with the V-12 crowd. I've used the Classique and found I have to go about 1/2 strength harder.

They come in a nice tin. That is about all that is good about them. They have a web site with comparative strengths versus Vandoren, Zonda etc.. I have had no success personally or with students on clarinet or saxophone.

Classiques, yes, and I also find they are wrongly strength graded by about half a strength. I have not settled on them but they produce a very clear but quite full sound. Very uneven quality, but I'm sure there is someting there for those who have the patience.

I spent a considerable amount of time testing Alexander Superial, DC, and Classique reeds on clarinet and all of my saxophones (soprano, alto, and c-melody). My personal preference is Classique. For me, Classique reeds have a warmth and richness that I have not found in another reed. I now use them exclusively.

I agree with the comments about their strength. Classique clarinet reeds are somewhat softer. However, Classique saxophone reeds are about a quarter to a half size HARDER.

Personally, I've found Classique clarinet reeds to be very consistant. Several months ago I purchased a couple of boxes of Classique soprano sax reeds that I found disappointing. However, since then I've been entirely happy with Classique soprano reeds.

Superial reeds (yellow box) have a kind of buzz that I don't like. However, other players like them for that very reason. Classique, on the other hand, has a very clear sound.

Ralph Aldridge,

I have found your thoughts on the saxophone very interesting. I'm glad to find you here as well.

I would be interested to know if you've tried the Phil Barone Hardrubber Jazz vs. your Morgan 6M or L. Which have you decided on, and have you new thoughts on clarinet mouthpieces? If I remember, you're using Morgan 126's, rejected the thought 115/J5 combo.

If you're inclined, send me a note at pasampson@ameritech.net.

Pete
