Pipe cleaners, two scalpels, cigarette paper (for the pads), pencils, couple of rags (to wipe cork grease from my fingers), couple of extra mpcs, couple of extra ligatures, 600# sandpaper, reed trimmer, cork grease (of course), Q-tips, Tom Ridenour's fingering-chart book.

Parallel jawed plyers, screwdrivers, electronic metronome, "Clarinetists Vade Mecum", a small brush to clean dust from under the keywork.

I don't carry my clarinet accessories in my case, rather, I use a sewing box to store them except for my clarinet stand and my swab. (I have one of those small cases) But, my clarinet kit includes:
2 pencils (one to loan)
cork grease
Three small screwdrivers (one for my adjustable thumb rest, the other for the other screws)
Small digital metronome
Reed-water holder (clips onto the music stand)
Key oil
Three tuning rings (they can be helpful on those hot summer days or evenings!)
Folded paper towel
Pencil Sharpener (for those occasions when the lead breaks or becomes blunt)
Legere Reeds (in a reed case)
Cane Reeds (in a smaller, seperate reed case)
A couple of small, thin nylon-covered elastics (as extra elastics for preventing the L. little finger keys from going out of alignment)
2 pieces of sandpaper--one fine, one coarse
Q-tips
I think that just about covers it.

Aside from the usual and necessary, I never like to be unprepared for emergencies. Therefore I always carry a complete set of Buffet pads, a few rubber bands and a roll of teflon tape (for that tenon cork that suddenly decides to let go)...GBK (who also packs some reading material for those interminably long "strings only" passage rehearsals)

I couldn't agree more GBK. The reading material in an orchestra is vital! I managed to get through Othello and Henry Fourth for my english coursework last year whilst rehearsing Verdi's Requiem!

Hi,
Aside from the usual stuff the others have mentioned, I could not live without an electronic tuner. I wish the alto saxes in my community band would get tuners (poor tuning and bad intonation problems and I'm two rows away).

sometimes you'll find a peice of gum that I wrapped in paper a week ago.......oops.......I know that sounds awful. But I had to ditch it quick and I had forgotten I had it in my mouth. lol
There's none in there now, I just checked.

Thought I'd pass along some info about stuff in your case. Went to Hawaii and took my double buffet case onboard. Was not about to "check it in" to heavy-handed baggage handlers. Inside my case were several tins. One in which I carried a couple small craftsman screwdrivers and a tiny (one and a half inch blade) Swiss Army knife for "whittling" reeds. No trouble going to Hawaii, but coming home they took my screwdrivers and little knife. I protested as much as I could without getting arrested. The little knife was a gift from Famous Amos(the cookie guy). After selling the cookie company, he started another under the name Uncle NoName and gave me the knife as a gift. I was ticked that the airport "armed and dangerous" security would even consider the screw drivers and tiny knife as weapons, after I showed them what they were used for. Especially in a case with two clarinets.
Advice to you is....take the tools and put them in your check in luggage to prevent confiscation by people with the education level of a tree frog.

One pencil case containing: Reed trimmer, small screwdriver, throw-away scalpel, cigarette papers, pencil with eraser removed, cork grease. Plus swab stuffed into the bell and a Vandoren container with four reeds.

Something I would much like to have in my case again: Those paper strips that prevent tarnish on silver keys. The hardware store i used to buy them at closed and i've been unable to find them for monthes. Does anyone know where i can get them???

I bought the Haggerty Silver Protection Strips at the Container Store. A place like Bed, Bath & Beyond or Linens & Things might also stock them. I keep the silver strip, a swab, cork grease, a tuner, reeds, and a screwdriver. I also have included something not yet mentioned: My name, address & phone number and the business card of my orchestra director. I hope never to lose my clarinet or have it stolen but thought it'd be a good idea to have some contact info in the case.

Hello? Anyone there? Here I am, a day late and a dollar short. Good to carry in the case: A small piece of double-sticky foam tape, handy for lots of things, especially corks that disappear at precisely the wrong time. Leave the paper on (to impact whatever), trim it, and stick it on the key back.
beejay, I like the disposable scalpel. If someone wants to keep it, you're only out a few coins. I have an elderly acquaintance who almost got her pill-cutter confiscated by airport security. Wow, what a weapon. I can hear her now: "Okay, sweetie, please stick your finger right in here so I can take over the airplane." She convinced them it was a necessary medical device, so they actually found one of her checked bags and put it there.
