the web site address is www.weinermusic.coom (no "s"). also, try www.discountreeds.com. Ken has some low prices as well. For example, Daniels reeds are cheaper there than they are at Fred Weiner

eBay has had many sales on reeds online. Many of the professional musicians here in NYC search out eBay for some great deals on large batches of reeds.
Will they all be good? I doubt it, but the price and quantity you get make up for the bad reeds you're forced to reject.
Good luck,
JJM

I've been buying Vandorens from Discount Reed. But I also get some interesting stuff from eBay, such as the out-of-business music store that had three boxes of Roy J. Maier Signature (Selmer) reeds that must have been 20 or 30 years old. Well-cured? You bet. They play very well. As I recall, 75 reeds cost me eighteen bucks. Not bad.

John

I notice that often the offers on eBay are for unboxed reeds. Could these be reeds that are selected out due to appearance? (I assume no one would dare try them and then try to sell.)

Jim, I suspect your assumption to be incorrect. I bought some unboxed reeds through eBay once... never again. Some were obviously used, and I suspect the others at least to have been tested and rejected. Hey, the seller never claimed they were new. Caveat emptor. When you find that one good reed in the box, would you sell the rest on eBay? Some no doubt would.

Regards,
John

You should also check out Peter Spriggs in BC. Since his prices are in CDN dollars (and is cheaper than most if not all the US dealers when prices are converted), and $1 US is about $1.60 CDN, with very low shipping charges, it's worth checking into.

Diz, I tried ordering from Weiner Music. First I was told that the minimum order was $100, and assumed that would qualify for free shipping (as opposed to a $30 domestic order). To my surprise the quote for shipping was an additional $40; needless to say I pursued that no further.

international shipping charges are a real pain- Ken at Discount reeds hardly charges anything for international shipping, i think it's about 12% the total cost of the order..... International Music suppliers USED to charge no less than $30US regardless of total size of order, but i think they've changed their policy- i yet to have this confirmed (i order Zinner mouthpiece blanks from them, and in the past the price of the shipping has been MORE than one unit of mouthpiece blank...).
Weiner are a great store if you live in the US, but for us "internationals" not very useful- high shipping costs and they have sent me the wrong stuff in the past too....

I have found International Music Suppliers and WW&BW both charge closer to $20 which keeps some sort of sensible proportion in the order. I found Weiners attitude of wanting to make such a sizeable profit out of international shipping (saying that $40 is the cheapest they can manage) while providing domestic shipping free quite objectionable, although I liked his internet site and the variety of items he carries. I just found my encounter with his store a sad, disappointing experience.
