Gee, does it say "Kaspar" on it, or something? Personally I think it's ridiculous to pay $500 or more for a mouthpiece, but plenty of people do.

Dunno about that, I have a prized specimen made by some Gnome in West Virginia that I wouldn't sell for less than that...

This falls under the heading of, "More money than sense" or
"$700 Callaway clubs are better than $50 KMart clubs" even though they come through the same shop floor.

You know, I have heard that these play themselves. Midsummer Nights Dream at at 120+! :-)

Back in college, my stand partner--and former US Navy Band (DC) clarinetist--used a Kaspar ligature (Ann Arbor) and thought it to be "the best." I was using a Bonade reverse at that time and we pretty much sounded the same. From what I remember of that old Kaspar, the current Bay ligatures are almost identical in weight and design, and are most likely every bit as good. IMHO, this eBay lig is grossly over-priced simply because of the Kaspar name.

BTW, given the reputation and value of the vintage Buffet clarinets, I have this old, authentic, used (but clean) stock Buffet ligature....do I hear $100, $200, more....make an offer I can't refuse (remember, it's a BUFFET)

I have a couple of boxes of reeds marked "Chedeville" --- anyone want to buy them for, say, $150 per reed?

I'm told that Kaspar used to hand them out free with his mouthpieces (which cost $13 each).

As far as I know, the desirable Kaspar ligatures were made by the Ann Arbor clan, not the mouthpiece "guru" Cicero/Chicago Frank. At least, when I bought my two Chicago/Cicero Kaspars from Frank, for $12.00 each, I didn't get any free ligs.

HAT - I particularly like the "Superb" mint condition - as opposed to "Crappy" mint condition - I wonder!

FYI--winning bid was by "Chester754" for $207.50. Don't be surprised if it is re-auctioned by him in the not-to-distant future for even more gullable bidders.

I believe Ken is correct about Kaspar including these ligatures with his mouthpiece.

When I bought an Ann Arbor Kaspar in 1967 the ligature came along with it...GBK

Forgot to add: I tried the Kaspar ligature in 1967 - didn't care for it.

Retried it for a day (about once a year) out of curiosity for the next 35 years (due to the "mystique" of the Kaspar name) - no change in my opinion...GBK
