Am about to embark on Dvorak Serenade Op 44.
2 ob,2cl,2bsn,cbn/string bass,3hn,cello. Basic question - seating arrangement ?
Anyone got ideas for a seating plan for optimum results ? I'd appreciate some help.

I played this recently and this was the seating arrangement we used, although I'm not saying this is correct:
Two rows, clarinets on the right if you are looking at the ensemble, oboes on the left, bassoons in the middle, then all other intruments in the back row with the horns in the centre of the back row.

I performed it 2 years ago and this was our seating plan:
One row from left to right - (from audience's point of view)
1st Oboe, 2nd Oboe
1st Clarinet, 2nd Clarinet
3rd Horn, 2nd Horn, 1st Horn,
1st Bassoon, 2nd Bassoon,
Cello
and Double Bass at the side
Have fun!

This should not be conducted as it is chamber music, not an orchestral piece - therefore, a semicircular seating arrangement would be the most appropraite for eye contact. This is how it was done when I played the work (years ago).
