 B45dot

Just had a very disconcerting experiece trying to find a decent B45dot mouthpiece for a student. Out of a batch of 10 I could not find any that I felt played decently or tuned well. My previous experinece with this facing has been more positive. I wonder what other players out there feel about this facing? I now urge student to try a B45 which seems to be more consistent in terms of tuning....any feelings out there on the B45dot? I really don't care for it and wonder of other experiences that other teachers and players have found. It seems to be the least popular Vandoren mouthpiece! DD

David...Your experience finding an acceptable B45dot mouthpiece, sounds very much like the same thing I went through when trying to find a decent B45Lyre for a student. I went through about 20 before finding one which I was pleased with.

Some of us just discussed this very thing a few days ago - and you and I both added to that particular thread:

One would think that machine made mouthpieces would be a trifle more consistant than what you and I both found.

Then again, perhaps not...GBK

I love my dot...many many times better than my regular 45. The 45 is sooooo stuffy and the dot plays so much more freely...

Both seem in tune to my ears...

I do have 2 JB's...one regular, one 88. I like 'em both...especially with the Rico Plasticover #1's that all the Bulgarian players seem to love...

Anyone know where I could buy a 45dot profile 88? WW&BW doesn't seem to be able to get them and I've seen 'em listed on the Vandy website...

Just worked through another batch of B45. 's and finally found (out of 25) one that played quite nicely in tune with excellent tone and response. there is no doubt that Vandoren makes excellent mouthpieces. My student is quite happy with it can hear quite a differnce over the other one's I have here.

Hello David

Serisouly, you feel a significant difference between B45 and B45.?

Mr Gauvin at Vandoren Paris told me that there is not a very important difference. It is more like to offer another choice for people not finding a good MP in a bunch of B45...

Your opinion?

Bruno, french clarinetist
