I have just purchased a Vandoren Optimum ligature for my Noblet 27 clarinet with Selmer HS* mouthpiece. I use Vandoren 2.5 Traditional reeds.
I have *always* experienced difficultly reaching the notes in the 3rd register beyond Top C, almost having to push them out with extra hard breath (sometimes squeeking).
Anyway, this morning I finally purchased the optimum ligature. I had decided to stay with a metal ligature, I currently have a no-name 2 screw metal lig.
Wow, what a difference. For those of you that aren't familiar the lig comes with 3 plates. Each of these seems to provide me with a clearer sound and I can play in the 3rd register with ease. And there really is a difference in the sound using each plate - classical style vs. jazz.
I am very happy with the upgrade (I'm sure this will not be the last - perhaps a new mouthpiece next?). I just wanted to share this good experience in case someone is having similar problems or considering a similar move (and no, I don't work for Vandoren!).

I prefer the parallel rail insert on both my soprano and bass clarinet mouthpieces. Plays like the great old Bonade ligatures without the constant readjustment hassels.

I like it too. Does anyone know what happened to "Freedom Lig."? I seem to remember they were a Sneezy sponsor, but I can't find a mention anywhere.

I played on an HS* since I was a beginner until last month. I went the other way; instead of a new lig, I got a Vandy M13 Lyre. Man, what a difference that made for me! The HS* is great for learning, but after awhile it just makes you work too hard. Maybe a switch will work even greater wonders for you.
But I think I'll try the Optimum soon as well.

I played using the B&G ligature as i prefer dark and round tone all a along. I also had in mind to purchase this new vandoren optimum ligature. Does this ligature cater to my intonation needs ?

actually, while i like my Optimum lig i prefer to use either of my Bonades (screws up and down), BUT i've discovered that the Opt works wonders for my Alto saxophone playing.... i find the low notes much easier to articulate with the Opt (it fits on my old vandoren 'piece) and while it does work well on the Clarinet, it lives in my alto sax case these days.
