 Finding the right clarinet barrel.

I have an older Bb and A Buffet clarinet which I need to find new barrels for, but I'm not sure which type of Buffet barrel would best fit the older clarinets (particularly the bores). The Bb is from 1960 and the A is from the 1940's. If anyone has any suggestions as to which types of Buffet clarinet barrels I should try out it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I like the Accubore (the original one - with ridges) on my Buffet R13 (appx 1955).

Guy Chadash is producing very nice barrels customized specifically for the Buffet line of clarinet. I actually use one for my LeBlanc Concerto A and my vintage (true) Buffet R13 Bb (when switching instruments, I move both barrel and mpc). For me, AccuBore USA barrels do not play with as focused a sound, particularily in the upper register.

I would get in touch with Guy Chadash, give him your serial numbers and ask him what he recommends. He can certainly vary the bore and the length to fit instruments from particular periods, and his hand finishing will certainly have playing qualities superior to the machine-made Accu-Bore.

If possible, you should come to the Chadash workshop and have your barrels adjusted to your particular instrument, mouthpiece and playing style. There's nothing like working directly with the maker.

Guy chadash does the best sort of work in this area and i comply with the concept of making sure you match (and try a )few new barrels and look at your tuning from this standpoint. Just becuase the barrel is longer does not mean your instantly in tune. Regards. DD
