I found in Muncy and International music supplyer reed maker called Steuer Esser.(FYI:Although I am not interested who uses what,Sabine Myer seems to use it.)
Interesting thing is their stone finish method.Price is very different by the number of stone finishing.1X,2X,3X are available.(a box of 3X containing 12 reeds costs 35$!!)
I would like to read what any users of them feel about them and what difference of 1X,2X and 3X.

I played a couple of Essers a while back. Very good sound - but _very_ hard compared with VDs. An Esser 1 1/2 was the equivalent of a VD 12 #3.

You sure about that Mark? I have a box of 5's, and they were only slightly harder than the 4.5's i was playing on last year. Now, my new Kaspar doesn't have the right curve to play such hard reeds.... so i don't use my Morrés or my 4.5's anymore. And the Essers are FAR too hard now...

Yup, I'm sure. They were the Steuer Essers that are made for (WW&Bw? Weiner? I forget). I was playing VD 12 3s at the time, and showed up for a lesson without a good reed. My teacher had me try those. Felt like someone put a popsicle stick in there when I tried a 2 1/2. We dropped back until I was comfortable again. I'm pretty positive it was a 1 1/2

The brand "Esser" is manufactured by the Steuer company (today owned by Mr. Hans Gillhaus), located at Lindau (Bodensee), Germany.
As far as I know, they do not manufacture the "APOLLO SOLIST" brand (with 1x, 2x or 3x stone polish) anymore.

Moreover, I read, there is a new reed manufacturer in Lindau now. I do not know anything about his reed program, but I could imagine (just an extimate of mine!), one of the former employees of Steuer wants to continue the tradition of the "APOLLO SOLIST" brand. The advertisement (in the german magazin 'rohrblatt) showed a reed with "H+H" written on the bark, which usually requires a laser writer (Steuer owns one).
It is said, the frech cut made by Steuer is a still more german cut than other manufaturers do. This may cause problems this short tables, I think.
I'll look for the addresses (including telephone and fax numbers, I don't think they offer e-mail until now) and post it one of the next days.

The drawing of the H+H reeds shown displays "H+H Solist",
the 1x, 2x or 3x stone polished reeds previously made by Steuer were called "Apollo Solist".

I have two boxes of the 5's right now and I am pretty sure that the strength of the 5s drops off radically compared to the lower strengths. The first box of esser's I had ordered was a 3.5 (at the time I was playing V12 4.5's) and those were only somewhat soft. Since then I've had to go to V12 5's (I eventually caught the hint the 32nd time my teacher commented on how soft my reeds sounded) - so I tried the Esser 4's (somewhat soft) and 5's (still softer than a V12 5, but nice sound).
