I would be delighted to hear comment on the V13. I don't wish to lay the blame on the 5RV Lyre, but I get a tone too easy and too thin, but I'm pretty new to the clarinet.
I'm new to this board. Who are you/these guys, GBK and Ken Shaw, who have answered my questions either directly or indirectly by answering the questions of others.
This is the best board on the whole net.

The V13 is a counterpart to the B45 but with harder reeds.
Vandoren Says: It has a long facing and therefore permits easier blowing and has a tip of 1.16mm.
In my own personal tests I felt it didn't perform very well(I tried about 50) and came to the conclusion that it is something of a halfway point between a M15 and a B45. I didn't care for the tuning tendencies in the throat notes and dislike the rigidity of response in the altissimo.
This mouthpiece has been out for quite some time, and it is amazing that Vandoren still markets it. Maybe the M30 is the next logical step towards the tonal quality the Vandoren people are looking for.
Its amazing how lax Vandoren are with their site, and the fact one can't find any info on the M30 makes you wonder what is taking so long...

I've played clarinet for 45 years, including in the West Point Band and the Knoxville Symphony -- everything from Eb soprano to BBb contra. I never had the extreme finger speed or single-midedness to make it as a full-time player, so I've made my living as an editor and now as a lawyer. I also sing and play (serious) recorder. My wife is a musicologist who found her calling as a computer geek.
