Cause I got a Full Boehm finally!!!! Bought the used one that WW&BW had listed for the last little while. It's a Selmer Series 10 from about 1975. Nothing will ever make me get rid of my R13 but it's exactly what I need for the Bulgarian stuff I play!
Now if I just had $1500 for a good wooden G, and another $1000 for a C Boehm and then another few hundred for a L.P. Bb Albert...
;)

Some anonymous buyer recently paid the U.S. government $7.5 million for a gold coin they'll never spend (or play with.) I'd say you came out a lot better in comparison!

Hehe. I am still tryign to save up for that wooden clarinet that I want so badly. Mom says that if Ed Mcman every shows up on her front doorstep that she'll give me $1000 for that clarient that I really really really reallyw ould love to have. Although can you make any futre references?

I know times are different but I worked for my "firsts". I had a paper route for my "first" instrument. I worked at a nursery (the shrub and plant kind)to earn money for my "first" car. I worked on a dairy farm to earn money for college (this was my junior/senior year in H.S.) because I knew that any scholarship money I would recieve would still not be enough and my parents needed the help. Mind you, this is in addition to doing my chores about the farm. In college I worked at a gas station, a Ford dealership preping used cars, a RV supply and sales company installing appliances in RV's and mobile homes, just to earn spending money. This was along with my work study job as the band librarian. Now, I'm not complaining by any means. I've become a better person for having done these things. It's just that when I hear teens these days saying, "My old man won't buy me ________." (You can fill in the blank) And then piss and moan about how "bad" they got it just makes me wonder! I also realize that adults run the paper routes now and most other jobs that youth used to and were expected to do. Perhaps you could wash cars in you neighborhood. We have a young man in our subdivision that hand washes cars for $5 a pop. He's usually busy all weekend when the weather is good. Young people are still cutting lawns, although the adult owned lawn services are crowding out that also. I still see young people working at grocery stores as checkers, sackers, and stockers. Look into it.
I'm glad <b>YOU</b> are saving up for your clarinet. I wish more young people would/could do what you are doing. Be patient and you'll reap the rewards.

When Kat mentioned that Bulgarian folk players use full Boehms, I can't say I'd ever noticed. So, the other day, when I got to see / hear the Yuri Yunakov ensemble which features American clarinet player Catherine Foster, I took a close look at her horn while it was parked on her stand between sets. Yup, a longer lower joint and an Eb key.
What makes / models do the Bulgarian players tend to use?

Bulgarians tend to use Selmers. I don't know what model Catherine's is, but I know it's a Selmer. Last week at Balkan Camp, it became known that she can't reach the low Eb key, because of her short fingers. I kept offering to trade my R13 for her Full Boehm, but she refused, so I ended up buying the one from WW/BW...
Catherine's a great clarinetist and a really nice person too!

Ricardo Moreles (Principal Clarinetist with the NY Met) is holding is pictured on the front of the International Musician (AF of F monthly publication) holding a low Eb clarinet that does not appear to be a full Bohem (????)
